Storyboard Text

  • It is time to break away from Great Britain and declare our independence. I will write a document that states we are free from rule and have the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness
  • Thats a perfect idea!
  • After the Articles of Confederation failed the Constitutional Convention met to create a new and better document that stated the way of government. This document would eventually be known as the Constitution
  • How our we going to run our government since we have gained our independence??
  • We can create a new written document that lays out how our government will be led.
  • I think the states need representation based on population. I call this the Virginia Plan
  • We are going to need a plan of representation for the people!
  • Why don't we compromise both plans. We can create a bicameral congress with one house based on population and one based on equal representation. This is a Great Compromise
  • No that is not fair! I think states should have equal representation so the larger states do not overpower the smaller states. I will call this the New Jersey Plan
  • To make it fair we will count 3/5 of the state's slave count in the population. It will be called the 3/5 Compromise
  • What about the slaves?
  • They should count for the part of the state's population!
  • We need to seperate the government
  • We can also create a Checks and Balances system to ensure that one of the branches does not overpower the others
  • We can split it into three different branches. A legislative Branch to make laws, an Executive Branch to carry out laws, and an Judicial Branch to interpret the laws
  • As a Federalists I believe that it's not necessary because we need a strong, central government
  • As a Anti-Federalists I believe it is necessary because it will prevent the central government from threatening state's authority and oppressing citizens
  • We need to create a Bill of Rights that states the individual liberties, limits the governments power, and gives some power to the states
  • As a Federalists I do not think we need a Bill of Rights. What we need is a strong, central government
  • Ratification is how we will officially confirm something. We can do this by holding a vote
