At the age of 12 Achilles lived in an orphanage in Italy but he wished to go to the U.S. and find a job or make a name for himself. Achilles never knew his parents and was always blaming himself and thinking he wasn't worth much because his parents had given him away. In the orphanage, he always had to care for the younger children leaving little to no time to care for himself. .
At the age of fifteen Achilles got on a ship and set sail to America for a new experience and work. He suffered much due to the many storms that would threaten to sink the ship. He spent many nights awake reminiscing about his time in the orphanage and missing the children he so dearly cared for. He promised himself that once he settled down(if at all possible) he would help the orphanage by donating money.
Achilles finally arrived at Ellis Island after months of suffering at sea. He was excited about his future in this new and intriguing unknown world. He saw that many people were flocking to a certain building while some soldiers directed other people to the same building, so he decided to follow the masses.
