  • Massanet was a Cathlotic Church Official who established the first mission in east Texas; San Fransisco de los Tejas. It struggled and ended up failing due to drought, disease, and resentment.
  • Escandon
  • Hidalgo was a friar at the Juan Bautista Mission. He lived at the San Fransisco mission and wanted to rebuild the mission in East Texas. Spain denied him, and he instead asked the French to build the mission. France accepted, since they saw it a good way to trade. But then Spain captured the French, and the mission failed.
  • Jesus was a Francisian missionary who founded missions, such as Senora de los Delores, and San Miguel de los Adaes. He also founded mission San Jose Y San Miguel de Aquayo in San Antonio, which became the most succesful mission in Texas.
  • Escandon was a military commander who founded 20 settlements, including Laredo. He is known as the Father of the Lower Rio Grande.
