Storyboard Text

  • Mariam Not Being Able To See Her Family
  • "What a stupid girl you are! You think you matter to him
  • Nana's Death
  • "Mariam caught a glimpse of what was beneath the tree: the straight-backed chair, overturned. The rope dropping from a high branch. Nana danging at the end of it" (36).
  • Rasheed & Mariam's Abusive Marriage
  • Mariam is punished for being born as a harami, despite having any part of her birth, and because of this she must stay away from her family to avoid damaging her father's reputation. Growing up outside the city in a small shack, she has to accept the harsh reality that she will never be part of the family.
  • After being deprived of seeing her family, Mariam returns to the sight of Nana hanging from a tree of which is inherently her fault due to her sudden departure. Mariam, then, has to continue on living with her only sense of family gone.
