Christopher Columbus, an Italian explorer for Spain, landed on Texas 1442 in was looking for a faster and safer way to Spain. But landed on Sal Salvador.
In 1519 Hernán Cortés, was sent to present day Mexico, was seen as Gods to the Aztec because they had metal armor and horses.They overthrew the Aztec and made a base of operations for Spain.
In 1526 Cabeza de Vaca, the expedition got lost, and got caught up in a hurricane, and was shipwrecked onto Galveston Island. They were treated as equals by the Karankawa , but thought they were treated as slaves. They had to carry water, and wood. Also carried in canoes.
In 1540 Fray Marcos de Niza, he thought he had found the city of gold, but was an adobe village. Coronado and more than 1000 men went in search for the fake city of gold.They did not find the city of gold however, they did find the Grand Canyon, found present day Kansas, and the Pacific Ocean.
1519 Pineda, was the first person to map the coast of the Gulf Of Mexico, and explore the Texas coast.
In 1682 Robert La Salle, went on an expedition to find the mouth of the Mississippi. They then got shipwrecked and had to make a fort. La Salle went back to get more supplies, and when he was gone the Karankawa attacked the colonists. Only 7 out of 400 colonists survived the expedition. On the way to Canada one of La Salle's soldiers killed him.
