Matilde was unhappy because she didn't have all the fancy clothes and jewelry that she wanted. She said she suffered because of the poorness of her house with dirty walls and worn out curtains, and chairs.

Matilde´s husband came home holding an invitation to go to a ball. Matilde said she couldn't go because she had nothing to wear, and no jewelry. Matilde wanted to look really rich and wear a bunch of fancy accessories.
Falling Action
Matilde went to her friend Madame Fortsier to borrow some jewelry. She found just the one she wanted, it was a diamond necklace. So then she was very happy and was ready to go to the ball.
Resolution
All because I lost that necklace!
This is a horrible life!
Matilde was having a good time at the ball and she felt like the richest women there. She was happy until she realized that she had lost her necklace that Madame Fortsier gave her. She told her husband and they looked everywhere for it but it was nowhere to be found. They then went and had to buy a real diamond necklace and they were now in debt.

Matilde finally returns the necklace to Madame Fortsier and she wondered why she didn't return it sooner. Matilde explains the story and finds out that the necklace she borrowed was a fake diamond and that they just bought a real one for nothing!
What!
Oh no! It was fake!
Matilde and her husband worked to pay of the debt of the necklace the rest of their lives. They became very poor and they just had normal clothes now, and there house way way worse now then before.
