  • The Chinese were the first producers of Tea, they produced tea many years before the East India Company.  
  • According to the legend, an emperor sitting with a cup of fresh boiled water, discovered tea, when a leaf from a camellia plant fell into his cup
  • As tea was introduced to England, it became very popular as a snack with bread and butter. 
  • The tea gathered could then be grown in India and the company could bypass China in its tea needs. 
  • The East India Company sent someone to become a tea spy. They wanted someone to gather the secrets of how the tea is made and gather plants at the same time.

  • The East India Company was not successful in growing tea, so they recruited eight men from China with lots of experience to grow the tea for them, they got paid a decent amount but if got sick or could not do the job had to pay the company. 
  • The Importance of the podcast is to explain how tea was made and how it became very important to England and trade to America
