This key event proves to Sal that the shadows are real and back again, not just their own imagination. When before, it had only been the wind ringing the bells tied around their window, or Eight coming to assassinate them. This event influences Sal’s decision to flirt with Elise, and find out more about the Shadows, and the people who withdrew the soldiers from Nacea, leaving them to die at the hands of the shadows. Eventually leading Sal to kill Seve and find out more about the war.
Four accuses Sal of killing Six
“‘Six is dead.” Ruby sat next to Amethyst and let out an exaggerated sigh. “Someone better have an alibi.” I glanced around, and only Four wasn’t watching the Left Hand. “So,” Amethyst said as she laid down her papers, “do you have one, Twenty-Three”(Sal)“?”

This pushes along the plot because it leads to Twenty-Three finding out that Four loved them, and then promptly killing him, and getting Eleven eliminated for failing to assassinate them in a clean and discreet manner, she could of ended up killing one of the servants which would have been against the rules. Which leaves only Twenty-Three, Five, and Two left to assassinate each other, and to Twenty-Three ultimately winning.
