Two colored men drove by dangerously at a high speed. At the time Jean didn't know it was Calpurnia's grandson. Henry told Jean that black people now have enough money to buy a car, but don't wanna go though the struggle in getting a licenses or even insurance.
Jean's mother suffered from a heart condition, and she died because it got worse one day and had a heart attack. Jean's mothers death just pushed her to work harder and try to help Calpurnia's grandson, and talk to her dad to take the case.
Jean was trying to convince her father to take a case for a black man who was drunk driving and killed a pedestrian, to stop the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) form getting involved.
Jean worked hard hared to help Calpurnia's grandson and made sure that he would have the same rights as a white people and not be jugged by the color of his skin. Jean accomplished her goal and thanks her mother for giving her the strength to fight, and to do what she knows was right.
