The Constitution has made Congress make departments to help me lead America. I, and all the future presidents, will appoint the heads of these departments and they will assist us with all the problems we have to face. But who should I choose?
I think I'll make Thomas Jefferson the secratary of state. He was a US minister to France during the war. He will oversee relations between us and other countries
I will make Alexander Hamilton the secretray of the treasury. He was one of my aids during the war. As secretary of the treasury, he will manage the government's money.
I'll make Henry Knox the secretary of war. He was one of my trusted generals during the Revolution, and now he will oversee the nation's defenses.
I will make Edmund Randolph the attorney general. He will advise the government on legal matters. He won't be a head of any of the departments, but he will still be in my cabinet.
Even though it's not required by Congress, I will begin the practice of calling my cabinet of department heads together to advise me in my big decisions.
