Come on Josh, let's explore the cave with the other three scouts.
I'm glad you always take me on scout trips with you.
Don't be scared. I'll take you out
I can't see anything! I can't even with the light. I'm night blind. Get me out of here!
On a Friday evening in September, 1989, Joshua Dennis's father took him along on his Boy Scout trip in Utah, Stockton to explore, Hidden Treasures Mine.
I thought Josh was with you!
But we thought he was with you.
The "mine" that they entered looked seven feet tall and five feet wide. There were conglomerates of silver, lead and rock. Not to mention the damp shininess of the mine.
Don't give up. he's still in the mine. We know it.
But suddenly, one of the "scouts" started panicking so Josh's dad, Terry, took him out of the cave assuming that Josh would stay with the other two scouts.
The thing that saved Joshua for five days when he was without water, food and light, or even companionship, was his courageous faith.
Though, by 9:30 pm, when the other scouts came out of the mine without Josh by their side, Terry had realized that Josh was missing in the mine! They started searching and by 2:30 am they had contacted the local sherif.
The next day on an early Saturday morning, the Tooele Search and Rescue Team and the Salt lake Search and Rescue Team had arrived. Soon, Utah Power and Light sent in a rescue team. By now, Josh's mom and many other people that knew him also joined the "search".
A mine historian, John Skinner felt like he needed to help. After all, he knew the mine like the back of his hand. So during the fifth day of Josh being missing he found him! It was hard to believe he was still alive but all of Josh's "faith" seemed to keep him going.
