One Major Theme in The Monsters Are Due On Maple Street by Rod Serling is Humans are their own worst enemy. One pice of evidence is that Les couldn't get his car started but when he got out, the car started by itslef. Since the residents of maple street on alert of aliens and monsters, they blamed Les for being the monster becasue he wasn't even touching his car and it turned on by itself. The second piece of evidence is that when the lights went off in Charlie's house, all of maple street blamed Charlie for being the Alien/Monster. This supports the idea because this shows that when the residents started actually believing there were monsters, they started finding scapegoats anywhere they could so they could claim themselves innocent. The last piece of evidence is all the redidents of Maple Street broke into chaos after they couldn't find somebody to blame. This supports the theme because the residents of Maple Street by this point, have now convinced themselves that there is DEFINETLY a monster and break up into chaos and die. To conclude, the theme of The Monsters Are Due On Maple Street by Rod Serling is Humans are their worst enemies because they accused Les for being the monster because his car turned on. The residents accused Charlie because the lights went on in his house. Finally, since there was nobody guilty, the residents broke into chaos and killed each other eventhough none of them was the Alien/Monster. When Humans are convicned of something, there is no turning back. This story clearly shows what could happen when humans have weak minds.T
