Storyboard Text

  • One day in the summer, Katelyn was riding home from a friend's house with her aunt. It was the summer after 5th grade and Katelyn was looking forward to middle school at SMAMS.
  • If you want I can teach you some volleyball skills that I remember from when I played in high school.
  • Katelyn I saw on the Sherwood website that they had a 6th grade volleyball team.
  • I don't know anything about volleyball.
  • Okay that will be great. Thanks!
  • Later that day Katelyn went on her computer and watched video after video on various volleyball skills.  As she watch the videos suggested by her Aunt she gained so much knowledge about volleyball.
  • Volleyball looks like a complicated sport. There are so many skills I will need to learn.
  • Katelyn and her aunt met at the park to practice. It had been two days since the last time they met. Her aunt wasted no time and got right into teaching Katelyn the proper way to pass and set.
  • Yes exactly like that. Now when I toss the ball I want you to pass it back to me
  • Passing is a crucial skill in volleyball. To pass you should have your knees slightly bent and your arms extended. Do not swing yor arms use your legs to push the ball.
  • Like this?
  • Katelyn and her aunt spent the rest of the day at the park practicing.
  • After a long day of practicing Aunt saw great progress in Katelyn's skills. They spent the next few days at a local gym that had a volleyball court. They practiced and practiced.
  • The next week Katelyn went to a volleyball camp where she learned more skills, but it was hard for her to keep up with some of the other, more experienced girls. She was starting to give up.
  • I can't do this. That girl over there everytime she passes it goes perfectly, but when I do it it goes crazy.
  • Great pass Rebeca!
  • Thanks Coach!
  • After camp Katelyn went home and wanted to give up on volleyball, but her mom encouraged her to not to quit.
  • Ok, thanks Mom.
  • I don't think I can do it. I've tried and tried but I can't do.
  • Katelyn you can do this. You just have to practice and focus. Do not give up.
  • Go to camp tomorrow with a positive attitude and don't beat yourself up when you make a mistake, instead think about what you can improve.
