  • Scene - 1What happened Ravi?Scene - 2Don't worry Ravi, a fuel is a source of energy. The energy is released when the fuel is burned.
  • Fossil fuels are fuels that were formed from the remains of dead plants and animals which were buried underground millions of years ago. The time when these buried is known as Carboniferous era.
  • Coal was formed by large plants getting buried underground and decomposing. The heat and the pressure of t he Earth's rocky layers and the absence of oxygen caused these plants to take the form of coal.
  • Petroleum was also formed by the remains of marine animals and plants which were buried millions of years ago. It is known as crude oil. It cannot be used directly. It is processed in refineries to produce various fuels,
  • Natural Gas is mostly found trapped along with oil. CNG and LPG cause less pollution and are types of Natural Gas.ATF is a refined kerosene.
  • Petrol and diesel are formed from petroleum. Petrol also has poisonous lead. Since, 2000 only unleaded petrol is available in India.
  • Diesel has more pulling power as a fuel and the diesel engines cost more and are heavier than petrol engines.
  • Alternative fuels are fuels that do not cause pollution and are friendly to the environment. Eg - Hydrothermal energy,, biodiesel etc. REVA was the first electric car launched in India in 2001.
