Social Studies Logging Industry storyboard

Storyboard Text

  • In 1902, Charles went out to his new job in the logging industry, in St. Anthony, Minnesota.
  • He began to chop down trees, and found that it was tiring work, especially for a 16 year old like him. Some of the men working with him were old enough to be his father.
  • After many logs were cut, Charles headed down to the river, to toss in logs with the others. The logs would travel down the river to sawmills, and be used as lumber.
  • The day's work was over, and Charles headed back to the bunkhouses in the large lumber camp.
  • Mealtime was a feast. There was Cherokee sweet corn pone, fresh fruits, cheese grits, hunt camp potatoes, biscuits, sausage gravy, and thick griddle cake with maple syrup.
  • Soon after eating, Charles went to sleep with his fellow loggers, getting rested up for the next day of logging.
