  • Transpiration is the water vapor that plants release, and evaporation is when water from the ground turns into water vapor and enters the atmosphere. Together, this process is called evapotranspiration.

  • Condensation is when water vapor rising into the atmosphere forms into water droplets. The droplets then condense into clouds.

  • Water falling from the clouds in the form of sleet, rain, hail, or snow is called precipitation.  
  • Infiltration is precipitation that goes into the ground. When there are more cracks in the soil, there is more infiltration.
  •  The precipitation that doesn't infiltrate dirt is runoff. Runoff travels to rivers and lakes, and will typically reach an ocean. 
  • The water cycle will continue to repeat, renewing water.
