The book of Leviticus was a handbook of instructions for worship for Israelites. . . There was a certain set of teachings known as the Holiness Code. . .
Group 5 is doing an educational mukbang video on the Books of Leviticus and Numbers. Leviticus was written by a priest after the exile. This focuses on how community worship is very important to the Israelites because it expresses who they are.
The holiness code focuses on worship and true worship in everyday life. True worship is shown through love for the people around you.
Going back a step rituals were very important to the Israelites. They had specific instructions. Writers made rituals that were direct statements from God and Moses. They also included the israelites in the wilderness to make people understand that bonding is very important.
We talk about the first and second temple and the teachings/sacrifices made. The second temple was a safe space were Jews can go worship God, the second temple was made because the first (Solomon's temple) was destroyed by the the Babylonians. The second was built by the people which was much bigger than the first. They also did little sister scarifies because they thought that scarifies were the most pure form of showing sorrow for committed sins.
In The Book of Numbers, we see what happened when the Israelites and Moses were in the wilderness. In this story we witness God's punishment to those who do not trust Moses/God. It also talks about Moses siblings Miriam and Aaron. They were jealous of the power he had so they claimed they had just as much power as Moses had. God got angry with them and told them that only Moses talks to God face to face.
He gave Miriam leprosy so they could not continue into Canaan without her. Both Moses and Aaron were tested time and time again, but there came a time where Moses did disobey God. He said that the Israelites were rebels. God got very angry and said they were never going to step foot into Canaan.
