  • The first thing we are going to talk about is elements.
  • An element is a material made of only one kind of atom. Na would be an element because it has only one capital letter and it is made of only one atom.
  • What is a compound?
  • The second thing that we are going to be talking about is compounds.
  • A compound is a material that has two or more atoms. Can anyone give an example of a compound?
  • NaCl would be a compound because it has two capital letters and is made of salt and chlorine.
  • Correct! Now we will be learning about elements and molecules.
  • Elements and molecules are elements with more than one atom. Can anyone think of an example of one?
  • N2 would be an element and a molecule because it has two nitrogen atoms.
  • Correct! now we will be learning about compounds and molecules.
  • Compounds are molecules because they have more than one atom. An example of one would be NH4 because it has more than one atom
