  • King Amulius viewed twins Romulus and Remus as a threat and so they were abandoned on the Tiber River to die.

  • The kings plan to kill the twins was unsuccessful and a she-wolf helped to raise Romulus and Remus until they were eventually discovered by the shepherd Faustulus.
  • Remus is captured and taken to the king where the twins learn of their true identity. King Amulius is slain and their grandfather, Nimitor, is named King again.
  • The brothers left Alba Longa to build a city of their own, only they could not agree upon the location. Remus liked Aventine Hill and Romulus wanted Palatine Hill.
  • The constant arguing between Romulus and Remus over who had a better hill eventually led to the killing of Remus by his own brother.
