The Articles of Confederation was the first "constitution" for the US. Under the Articles, states had the most power with the Federal Government having very little power.
Shay's Rebellion highlighted a major weakness of the Articles of Confederation by showing that when Massachusetts was in a time of needing help, they weren't able to call on the National Government for support.

The document that replaced the Articles of Confederation was the US Constitution. The Constitution is still used to this day.
