Frederick Douglass was born in the early 1800’s on a plantation in Maryland. Frederick never knew his age or his father because his first owner never told him his age. Frederick kind of knew his mother because she worked at a different plantation narby. Frederick was born into slavery. He worked for many masters throughout his life.
When Frederick grew older he was sent to go work in Baltimore. He traveled to Baltimore in a carriage on a very bumpy road. When he arrived at Baltimore everyone seemed to be in a hurry and it was very crowded. He was very nervous to be here especially because he didn't’ know whether his new owners were nice or mean. He got off the carriage and began pushing through people to get to his new owners house.
When he got to his new owners house, he walked up on their doorstep and knocked on the door. The door opened, behind it was a elegant lady and she introduced herself as Mrs. Auld. She let Frederick inside and introduced her family to him. She had a husband and a son. This was Mrs. Aulds first time owning a slave so she was new to it and didn’t completely understand. At first she was very kind to Frederick and she didn’t yell at him or treat him any differently from any other person.
