Christopher Columbus 1442, Italian explorer Spain. He was looking for a faster route to Asia. He landed on San Salvador in October, 1442.
Alonso Alvarez de Pineda 1519. He was the European to observe the Texas coast. He did not finish his mission. Some of his men were arrested by Hernan Cortes, who saw them as a threat to his mission.
Hernan Cortes 1519. The Aztec found him and his men gods, he captured the Aztec of Tenochtitlan (now called Mexico City). He conquered the Aztec Army, sent gold & silver to Spain, and gave Spain a foothold in America.
Alvar Nunez Cabezade Vaca (1528) He landed on Galveston Bay and was taken by the Karankawa. He lived as a medicine mon and traveled Texas from tribe to tribe, telling stories of the 7 cities of gold-Cibola.
Fanncisco Vasquez de Corornado 1540. He went in search of Cibola, the city of gold. He split up his group in half, half traveled west and found the Grand Canyon and the Pacific Ocean while Coronado traveled northeast to Kansas and claimed land for Spain.
In 1685 La Salle arrived at Matagorda Bay in Texas. He established fort St.Louis but ran out of supplies. Hunger,disease, and the Karankawa's killed most of the colonists. The expedition failed but France got to claim Texas. In the end, La Salle was murdered by one of the few survivors.
