The monsters are due at Maple Street Theme:Fear and Suspicion are destructive forces.
I think that these three pieces of evidence support my theme, "Fear and destruction are deadly forces," because, once the residents of Maple st. saw a dark figure coming, Don brought out a gun but Steve took it and Charlie took it from Steve. After Charlie took the gun he shot the dark figure out of fear. But after Charlie shot the figure, everyone went closer to the dark figure and realized it was Pete Van Horn, he went to another block to see if the power was out there too. My second piece of evidence is that, Les's car started all by itself. Even though the residents of Maple st. knew Les for a very long time, they were so quick to turn on him. They didn't even think of the possibility that there wasn't an alien near them or that something else was going on. The last piece of evidence is that, at the end of teleplay version of the story, everyone started to turn on one another. They started to get guns, bricks, and other objects, and throw them at houses who's lights would turn on. While all this chaos was happening there were monsters who were controlling the cars and the lights of houses.
Evidence One: In this scene, Charlie shoots Pete Van Horn.Charlie shot him because Charlie saw a dark figure walking toward the group of people, so he grabbed a gun from Steve and shot the figure. When he walked towards it he realized it was Pete.
Evidence Two:In this scene, everyone in the neighborhood turns on Les and his wife because Les's car turned on by itself.
Evidence Three: In this scene, everything turns into total chaos.
