In the ancient city of London, a child named Edward was born to the rich family of Tudor. All of England praised the baby boy, Prince of Wales. On the same day, another English boy, Tom, was born to a poor family of the name Canty, one who did not want him.
Fast forward a couple of years, Tom makes his way to Westminster Palace one day and a guard attacks him. This attracts the attention of Prince Edward whom rebukes the guard and invites the pauper into the palace.
MIND THY MANNERS, THOU YOUNG BEGGER!
OPEN THE GATES AND LET HIM IN!
HOW DAR'ST THOU TREAT A POOR LAD LIKE THAT?
LONG LIVE THE PRINCE OF WALES!
Tom introduces himself to Edward and the two boys get along with each other. They both tell stories about their lives and then decide to switch identities temporarily. The prince and pauper come to the realization that they look identical once they've swapped outfits.
Edward leaves the palace and encounters the same guard who harassed Tom. However, the guard mistakes Edward for Tom and maltreats him. Edward speaks up and claims that he is the real Prince of Wales although no one believes him and calls him crazy.
I AM THE PRINCE OF WALES AND THOU SHALL HANG FOR TOUCHING ME.
BE OFF, THOU CRAZY RUBBISH.
Meanwhile, Tom is in the palace being worried about getting caught. He tries to turn himself in, but just like Edward, everyone assumes he's gone crazy too. Edward's dad, King Henry VII, orders that no one talk about the "prince's" mental illness.
O MY LORD, ON THY KNEES?-AND TO ME!
IN SOOTH I AM NO LORD, BUT ONLY POOR TOM CANTY OF OFFAL COURT. OH, THOU BE MERCIFUL AND SAVE ME.
Edward goes to Offal Court, and is beaten by Tom's dad, John Canty, for calling himself prince. He escapes back to the palace where the crowd is ready. to tear him to pieces. Edward meets a boy named Miles Hendon who believes and saves him. The king is soon declared dead.
