  • Where are those gun shots coming from? This is weird!
  • I hope that the war is over and I'm very tired. I was walking all night.
  • I can't wait to move to North America! I think it will be fun!
  • Salva heard gun shots and had to flee from school. He was scared, but he could not run back home because he could get shot. So he hid in a bush, and ran away to get water. He was confused he didn't know what was happening. Salva was dependent on others.
  • Salva built boats at the Nile river, collected materials, paddled for hours. Salva was very tired. He thought that the Nile river was going to be where he can get water. The water was dirty so he kept going, he was scared because he was walking for days, hours. He was kind of sad because his Uncle was shot. This did not stop Salva, he kept on going.
  • When Salva was at camp he found out that they were letting boys go to America. Salva was waiting for his name to be on the list. One day it was. Salva is now moving to North America. Salva was very joyful. When he gets there he goes to school to learn English. Salva felt empowered because he became stronger from his journey.
