Storyboard Text

  • Hey pops, why do some stars look like they make shapes?
  • Well son, those are called constellations. They are made up of stars and some cultures use them as symbols.
  • But who came up with the constellations?
  • Well,a French scientist named Nicolas de Lacaille named 15 of the 88 constellations. Johannes Nevelius, a polish scientist described 10 of them too.
  • Pops: Put your hand up to the sky. Do you see those two clusters of stars? They are called the Big and Little dipper.
  • Son: That is so cool! I didn't know you could recognize constellations with your hands.
  • Pops: People use constellations for navigation to know which direction to go in. Before canlendars, they told farmers when to harvest their crops as well.
  • Son: What I want to know is how do constellations improve human lives?
  • I didn't know that! One more thing I want to know is do more stars appear over time to be declared as constellations?
  • That is a fact that I do not know, nor do scientists. Maybe you can study that one day champ.
  • Fosho!
  • That was real fun talk pops. Now that i know so much about constellations, I can share the same information with my kids as you did with me!
