Empress Wu or at the time Wu Zetain, was born into a upper class family. They didn't have a high rank, but they did have a good fortune. This was the start of the life for Wu Zetain.
Wu was very smart and would work hard. At age 14 she was in what they call the 5th rank or inner officials. Later during the emperor's rain she became the highest rank of the 9 concubines.
Wu's lust for power grew causing her to do outlandish things. She birthed three children, two boys, and one girl. The girl was strangled to death because she didn't want to get overthrown.
Wu didn't stop there. She would execute anyone who got in her way, even the emperor. After a long struggle for power she was finally the emperor. Lots of people didn't like it, but she didn't listen to them.
Wu, now Empress Wu, began to attack other places. She did suffer many defeats and anger some tribes, but she managed to expand china's border by a long shot.
After a long rule Empress Wu was getting old. She wouldn't give up the throne, but age caught up to her. During the winter Wu passed away partly from the cold, her legacy will remain as one of the most important rulers in china's ancient history.
