The White family is enjoying each other's company as they wait for sergeant major, a guest coming home from his deployment in India.
We wish our son was alive again!!
The company will give you 200 pounds as compensation for you son's death. We are sorry for you loss
Sergeant major tells the White family about the paws wish granting abilities. He explains it was blessed y a Fakir who wanted to prove fate was not something to be messed with. He tells them that those who use it suffer from misfortune and tells the story of the paws original owner, who had died.
I'M COMING HERBERT!!
During this conversation, the sergeant major throws the paw into the fire, but Mr. White grabs it from the fire, to the dismay of the sergeant major. The Sargant major warns them about its cursed nature. Later, after the sergeant major leaves, the family discuss what to wish for, and decide that they want to pay off the house, so they wish for 200 pounds, against the sergeant major's advice.
The next day, Herbert dies in a work accident. The company pay the family 200 pounds as compensation. The Whites now realize that the paw's powers are real. A few days later, Mrs. White forces Mr. White to wish Herbert back to life, and he does. Later that night they hear knocking on the door.
As Mr. and Mrs. White argue on whether to open the door, the knocking intensifies and Mrs. White rushes to open the door. At the same time, Mr. White grabs the monkey's paw and wishes his son dead again. Just as Mrs. White opens the door.
Mr. White holds Mrs. White as he tries to comfort her as she begins to cry.
