  • The prohibition movement began in Texas 1866. This movement was created to ban alcoholic beverages and some people even believed that this would reduce crime in the future.
  • They wanted to avoid drinking alcohol. By 1910 Texas had banned alcohol.
  • In 1919, congress passed the 18th amendment, outlawing alcohol in the U.S. This amendment was ratified January 25, 1919 and would go into affect the following January.
