Odysseus and his men went to battle with Troy for ten years. They eventually won by sneaking into their border by hiding in a giant horse made of wood.
Land of the dead
One of the many challenges they faced on their wayOne of Odysseus' obstacles on the way of getting home was home was getting stuck in the cyclops Polyphemus' cave. After being discovered to be in the cave Polyphemus shut them in and ate some of Odysseus' men. In order to get out Odysseus gave the cyclops wine until he was drunk and blinded him with a heated sharpened steak with the help of his remaining men. The next day they tied themselves under the sheep to not get caught leaving. As they sailed away Odysseus taunted the cyclops who was the son of Poseidon which lead to Poseidon making it difficult for Odysseus to get home.
Half of Odysseus' men went to investigate Circe's island leading to them being turned into animals by her after drinking a drink she offered them. On Odysseus's way to confront her he ran into Hermes who gave him a plant that made him immune to her drink. In order for her to turn his men back he had to sleep with her and stayed on her island for a year.
Home in Ithica
Odysseus traveled to the land of the dead to see Telemachus to hear a prophet that would help him get home. While there he sees his mother and learns that she died of a broken heart.
After escaping from Scylla and Charybdis Odysseus' men insist on landing on Helios' island. While there they kill and eat his cattle which angers him and to pay him back for it Zeus struck Odysseus' ship with lightning killing all of his men.
After 20 years Odysseus finally arrived home. He first met with his son Telemachus who he conversed with. Odysseus than killed all of the suitors at his house and convinced his wife it was him by mentioning how there bed was made and couldn't be moved.
