Hi! I'm Evie, and i'm here to tell you all about Moon Phases!
Relative to the person looking at it, the moon phases are caused by the way the moon orbits around the earth. When the earth is in between the sun and moon, it blocks the light from the sun, casting a shadow on the moon. We cannot see the parts of the moon that are shadowed, which is why we have the phases of the moon.
It's NOT a phase, mom!
First off, what causes Moon Phases to happen?
Waxing crescent moon
Waning crescent moon
First quarter moon
Waning gibbous moon
Waxing gibbous moon
Did you know that we only ever see one side of the moon? This is because it takes the same amount of time (27 days) for the moon to rotate around its axis as it does for it to revolve, or orbit, earth.
During the day, it's very hard to see the moon, because it is very faint and doesn't shine as is does at night.
During nighttime, the moon sits high in the middle of the sky
The not shadowed parts of the moon seem to glow in the dark, and is the brightest thing in the sky
