The Younger family lives in a small Chicago apartment. Big Walter passed away lately, and a $10,000 life insurance cheque is on its way. Walter wants to turn it into a liquor shop, Beneatha wants to turn it into a medical school, and Mama is undecided. Ruth becomes unwell at the end of the first scene, and it appears like she is expecting a child.
CLIMAX
Walter believes that no one is paying attention to his vision for the alcohol shop. Mama refuses to give him the money he needs to invest, so he wants to go ahead in any way. Instead, she goes out and buys a property in a mainly white community, which might be risky.
FALLING ACTION
Mama agrees to give Walter the remaining $6,500 after she buys a property in Clybourne Park to put away for Beneatha's education and to invest in the liquor shop. A guy named Karl Lindner comes to the Youngers and offers them a large sum of money to remain out of the area. They are stubborn.
RESOLUTION
When Bobo arrives at Walter's apartment, he informs him that Willy Harris has gone missing with all of the money they provided him for the liquor shop idea. Worse, Walter never placed the $3,000 into the bank that he was supposed to set aside for Beneatha's medical schooling.
To retrieve part of the money, Walter decides to phone Lindner and accept his offer. Asagai appears and urges Beneatha to marry him and relocate to Nigeria to practice medicine, giving Beneatha fresh hope. Walter's eagerness to strike a deal with Lindner, Mama believes, would eventually leave him empty within.
Walter knows he can't sell his pride for money, so he tells Lindner to go away. Mama returns to her plant, which represents her ideal of a happy, comfortable family in a house they can call their own, while the Youngers depart the house in a celebratory mood.
