  • Russian workers were angry with Czar Nicholas II about their working conditions and hours, these people included a man named Vladimir Lenin.
  • We want change! Less hours! Cleaner work place! Better pay!
  • The Russian workers went to the Czar's palace the next day to peacefully protest for change. The Czar's guards shot at the crowd, making this day known as Bloody Sunday.
  • Stand back!!
  • Vladimir Lenin was infuriated by this event. He wanted to try and take control of the government and lead like Karl Marx. He inspired the workers to force Nicholas II to abdicate the throne in the March Revolution.
  • After Nicholas II abdicated his throne, Lenin wanted total power. He led the Bolshevik Army (red army) against the white army, causing a CIvil War in Russia. Lenin won the war and took control of Russia, making it a communist society. Lenin also created the USSR (Soviets).
  • Lenin passed away 2 years after having a stroke. A man named Joseph Stalin saw this as an opportunity to take over Russia.
  • Joseph Stalin quickly took power and became a dictator to Russia. He created a totalitarian government where he had total control of everyone in their public and private lives. He used propaganda, censorship, and the Great Purge to influence the country. The Great Purge was the act of getting rid of anyone who opposed Stalin .
