Zebras's kind of origin. He was happy at the time
Zebra gets hit by a car, He's been sad and gloomy since.
"He couldn't remember when he began to be called by that name. Perhaps they started calling him Zebra when he first began running. Or maybe when he began running they started to call him Zebra." page 66
"When he was very young his parents took him to a zoo, where he saw Zebras for the first time. They were odd-looking creatures, like stubby horses, short legged, thick necked, with dark and white stripes." Page 66
"Then, a year ago, racing down Franklin Avenue, he had given himself that push and begun to turn into an eagle, when a huge shadow appeared in his line of vision and crashed into him and plunged hm into a darkness from which emereged very, very slowly..... page 67
Back to school
The end. Zebra realizes how much John changed his life. He has become a better/happier person because of it.
"That's how he happened to see the man. And that's how the man happened to see him. One minute the side street on which the school stood was strangely empty, without people or trafic, without even any of the dogs that often roamed about the neighborhood--"
Zebra meets a man and tells him to go into the school for Mr. English. Later in the story they become great friends
"Hello," said Zebra "Thanks much for suggesting i talk to Mr. English." "You're welcome." "Adam, you at all interested in art?" "No". Page 74
John ( The Man )gets an art job from the school during summer. Zebra is pleased but he doesn't like art.
First day of school starts and zebra gets a letter from John Willson. He reads it & realizes the impact John made on the school
