Jacob is on a walk to the park. Jacob suffers from a pollen allergy. Already, the pollen in the air is traveling into his body through his nostrils, now trapped in his nose hairs. The body begins to undergo phagocytosis, this is where phagoctyes engulf foreign particles (pollen). The nasal cavity allows the pollen to become trapped in his mucus. The pollen also gets trapped on his skin, making it impossible for him to escape it. Jacob is already sneezing uncontrollably. The skin acts as non-specific defense, protecting the body from the pollen.
The specific defense (immune system) begins its job, sending b-cells to create antibodies and protect from the pollen. This reacts with the body sneezing, coughing or a runny nose. This can cause inflammation around the nasal area due to irritation. The T-cells also contribute to the fight against the pollen, aiding the immune cells.
