  •  Most people were Christians and because of this Popes had the most power.
  • Popes and Kings By Estrella Rodriguez
  • Their duties were to decide what the Church would teach. They would write letters called, a bull, that explained a religious theory.
  • They also had some privileges. Popes could excommunicate someone whenever they felt that the Church was being offended.
  • Excommunicate, another word for expelled
  • Kings in the other hand only ruled small countries, until more power shifted to them. Kings got their power from their parents.
  • Kings had political power. They didn't really have much power as the Popes.  They also had little privileges.
  • Because of how little power they had, Henry IV got mad.
  • In return Gregory excommunicated Henry from the Church
  • Henry IV convinced the Germany popes/bishops to remove Gregory as pope.
  • Henry stood in the snow for three days, outside where Gregory was staying at. Eventually Gregory forgives him.
  • "I beg for your forgiveness."
