Once there was a man named Daedalus, who lived with his son on the island of Crete. Daedalus worked for King Minos. King Minos liked Daedalus's skills, and did not allow Daedalus or Icarus to leave the island.
Daedalus was very smart and had a lot of hope, so he and Icarus worked hard on their escape.
At last, the plan was ready. Daedalus and Icarus went to the shore to take off.
Off Daedalus and Icarus flew. Daedalus was overjoyed he and his son were going to escape. Icarus, however, started flying higher and higher. Suddenly, the wax holding Icarus's wings together started melting!
Icarus spiraled down, down, down until he disappeared into the ocean with a splash!
Daedalus was very upset, and thought humans should never again fly. Conflict made him lose hope. At the beginning of the story, Daedalus was full of hope but lost it all.
