  • Barnardo and Francisco are talking on the platform of the castle during the night time
  • Who's there?
  • No: answer me! Halt and identify yourself!
  • Francisco
  • Marcellus, Horatio, and Barnardo are talking while on the platform.  Barnardo tells them how he saw a ghost late last night.
  • Last night, when the star that's to the west of the North star had moved to where it's shining now, Marcellus and myself - the bell having struck one -
  • The ghost enters and the three of them notice him arriving.  
  • Doesn't it look like the King?  See, Horatio!
  • Horatio tries to talk to the ghost, but the ghost will not speak to them.
  • Barnardo
  • Who are you, to intrude upon us at this time of night, dressed in armor the late King used to wear?
  • The cock of a rooster crows and the ghost disappears.
  • Barnardo
  • It has gone.  It's wrong of us to threaten so regal a figure.
  • Marcellus
  • Horatio
  • Horatio and Marellus talk about going to see Hamlet and tell him what they saw.
  • Horatio
  • Do you agree that we should tell him of it, out of friendship as befits our duty?
  • Marcellus
  • Barnardo
  • Yes, let's do that.
