Conflict : she talks about how much she hates the wallpaper. She spends most of her time speaking about how much she hates it. "The color is repellent, almost revolting; a smoldering unclean yellow, strangely faded by the slow-turning sunlight."
Symbolism : While she is ripping off the wallpaper it is symbolizing her escaping. She is escaping from all the bad stuff in her life. "I've got out at last," said I, "in spite of you and Jane. And I've pulled off most of the paper, so you can't put me back!"
Theme : One theme is that of self expression. She feels as if no one understands her or gets what she is going through and feels misunderstood. "John does not know how much I really suffer. He knows there is no REASON to suffer, and that satisfies him."
