Archibald Murphey was born in Caswell County, NC. He wanted to make internal improvements, constitutional reform, and public schools for the poor children of NC.

He drafted a document proposing a program to build roads and canals throughout the state, but was ignored by his fellow legislatures.
First Public School Built In 1840
He failed to make public schools in his time, but his agitation for public education helped bring about the establishment of the State Literary Fund in 1825, and the first public school act seven years after his death.
Archibald made a statement about internal improvements, education, and constitutional reform. He didn't have much of a success until after he died.
