Fiberglass boat construction is when the major components of the boat, the hull, deck, liner, and large parts like consoles are molded from fiberglass.
What is the fiberglass boat construction?
Let me tell you. The mold is first sprayed with gelcoat, then fiberglass cloth isapplied, and then resin is used to saturate or “wet out” thefiberglass. When the resin cures, you have a hull.
Resin and cores make up a large part of the construction. There are three types of resins: polyester, vinylester and epoxy. Core materials are often used to reduce weight and increase stiffness.
Like I said earlier, there are three types of resins. The important factor is for the builder to correctly match the resin to the type of reinforcing material being used so that the strengths are matched. For example, a vinylester resin is ideal for S-glass but, when used with E-glass, the reinforcing material will fail before the resin.
There are evolution of fiberglass construction method. The simple one is hand lay up method, then sandwich construction. The advanced method is infusion and vacuum techniques.
There's various types of fiberglass cloth such as S-glass, E-glass, mat and Uni-Directional Fibers.
What about fiberglass? There's just one type of it?
I just remembered what I had study in class. It fun when you enjoyed doing the assignment given.
Wow... You had so much knowledge about this. I'm so impressed.
