Where am I? Why can't I see? At least I'm getting food.
That's deep! Must have been made for me to fall into.
(zZz) Was I drugged?? (zZz)
The narrator wakes up in what he presumes to be a prison in Toledo, an infamous prison during the Spanish Inquisition. He walks around the pitch black dungeon until he falls on the ground, falls asleep, and wakes up to a pitcher of water and bread.
I have an idea, I can escape!
Still in pitch darkness, the narrator trips and falls, but notices that while his chin hits the floor, his nose and forehead do not. He then determines there is a hole in the room. He grabs a stone and throws it down the hole, discovering it is incredibly deep.
The walls are closing in! It's so hot in here! I have nowhere to go!
I'm General Lasalle of the French Army. The Inquisition is over, and we have captured this prison.
After reawakening once more, the narrator finds once again bread and water at his side. However, once he drank the water, a heavy sleep came over him, and he realized that he must have been drugged.
Who are you??
The narrator wakes up strapped down to the bed, with the room dimly lit up. Upon looking up, he sees there is a pendulum swinging, slowly descending onto his heart with a razor sharp blade on the end. He also notices that rats crawl the stone floors, no doubt attracted by the meat set out for him. He then takes the meat, and rubs it on the straps for the rats to eat them off so he can escape.
As the narrator begins to move around once more, he notices a heat building up in the room. Then, suddenly, the walls begin to close in on him, progressively getting hotter and hotter. The narrator realizes that he is being forced to jump into the pit, certainly meaning his death.
Finally, right before the narrator was about to fall in, the walls cool down and move backwards. However, out of fear, the narrator begins to fall into the pit as he faints. But then, suddenly, the French army general Lasalle grabs his hand and pulls him up, informing him that the prison has been captured and the Inquisition is over.
