At the beginning of the story, Manuel says that he raised his hand to be part of talent show. Manuel's plan is to pretend to sing the words to La Bamba. He says hes going to try to impress a girl in his class.
At rehearsal, Mr, Roybal was having trouble getting the record player to work. Mt. Roybal then assured Manuel that it would work out fine. When its time for the rehearsel, Manuel's friend Benny plays the trumpet. It's so loud, Manuel drops his record and is happy it didn't break.
The next day, Manuel is nervous about performing in front of everyone. After a while, it is finally his turn. He walks up on stage and puts on the record. Then, it just keeps playing the same thing over and over! He is embarassed but everyone thought it was funny, so it's not too bad.
