It was a cold, rainy night. The White family was waiting for Sir Major Morris.
Major Morris showed the Whites the monkey's paw and how it can grant wishes, but warns them to be careful.
Major Morris left as Mr. White was about to make his first wish. Herbert told Mr. White to wish for 200 pounds and he did. Then all of the sudden, the monkey's paw moved. Herbert tried to cheer things up and went to work.
The next day, the whites were having breakfast and waiting for Herbert to come home. Then there was a visitor with news. She told them about Herbert in an accident. The White were upset and the visitor gave them 200 pound just as Mr. White wished for.
Later that day, Mrs. White remembered that they still have the monkey's paw and have two wishes left. She told Mr. White to wish Herbert back and he did. After he wish, there was knocking at the door. Mrs. White wanted to open the door, but he didn't let her.
There was more knocking. Mr. White grabbed the monkey's paw and wished for his son to be dead again. When Mrs. White opened the door, she cried.
