It is 5:15am, and the soldiers have to get up in 15 minutes. They all slept in cots that were in the in the dugouts. Their beds had no mattresses, and they had one blanket and a pillow. The rooms aren't insulated so it was sometimes hard to stay warm. All they did here was sleep, and if they had time read, and sometimes drink .
This soldier has a grenade, they became a common weapon in the first world war battlefield. The other soldier is holding the Lee-Enfield rifle, it was the standard rifle which was less accurate but held more round and was fired faster.
These are soldiers that are on the front lines, and the commander telling them what to do. there are soldiers in no man's land that would try and cross to the other side to obtain information, or kill people. There were grenades and gunfire going off everywhere. Some soldiers even when wounded would continue to fight.
