Allow me to show you how calmly, I can tell you this story.
It was his evil eye yes! it was that that drove me to kill the old man and rid myself of the eye forever. Every night just at midnight i looked in apon as he slept.
Upon the eighth night I was more than ushually cautious in opening the door. I chuckled ;perhaps he heard me; for he moved on the bed suddenly,as if startled.
With a loud yell, I threw open the lantern and lept into the room. he shrieked once-once only. In an instant I dragged him to the floor and pulled the heavy bed over him. After what seemed like hours I no longer heard the pounding of his evil heart.
After chopping up the body in the bathtub and depositing it in the floor boards, there came a knock at the door. Officers had been deputed to search the premises. I bade them search for what had I to fear?! I even brought chairs into the room so they may rest from their fatigues.
They heard! They suspected! They knew!- They were making a mockery of my horror! Villains! I shrieked, I admit the deed!-tear up the planks! Here, here! it is the beating of his hideous heart!
