Storyboard Text

  • Jamestown Settlement Brady Jensen | Period 3
  • We have been starving for 3 to 4 months now!
  • This is later called the Starving Time.  They were going to get grain from some colonists, but the colonists decided to go back to England instead of giving the people in Jamestown the grain. Aside from the starving time, a lot of people died from Mosquitos because they carry diseases.
  • Social
  • Economic
  • The growing of Tobacco started when John Rolfe got a Tobacco seed and then he grew it. He then started to trade, and they started to get a money supply from it. It helped out the Colony a lot.
  • My name is John Rolfe and I started growing tobacco and selling their seeds here in Jamestown.
  • My name is John Smith and I am part of the representative government in Jamestown.
  • Since King James | is still in England, the people in Jamestown and John Rolfe have created a Representative Government to help govern the settlement.
  • Political
  • Geography
  • I need some rain out here! I have nothing to drink and no water to plant crops.
  • The people in Jamestown went through a very rough drought. The drought lasted anywhere from 3 to 4 months. They had Fertile Soil, but since there was the drought, there was no water so the crops couldn't grow.
  • It was a surprising because they went through a drought, the were relatively close to indians, and most of the people died on the ship.
  • Why is it surprising that Jamestown was a success?
