The Battle with Grendel's Mother
As his words endedHe leaped into the lake, would not wait for anyone'sAnswer: the heaving water covered him over(466-469).
And desperate, lifted it high over his headAnd struck her with all the strength he had left,Caught her in the neck and cut it through(537-539)
The wise old warriors who surrounded Hrothgar,Like him staring into the monsters' lake,Saw the waves surging and bloodSpurting through(563-565).
Leaving his men at the surface, Beowulf jumps into the lake where Grendel´s mother lays at rest. He sinks down for hours till he reaches the bottom.
With a sword hammered by giants, Beowulf slays Grendel's mother, slicing her head off in the fight.
The men on the surface notice the waves start to be dyed red. They spoke of Beowulf and his possible fate.
