  • Created in 1893 by Eugene Debs. They wanted better pay. 
  • WE NEED CHANGE!
  • 1894 walkout: great northern railroad strike
  • "Better wages"
  • "Better conditions"
  • "We have good conducts and skills"
  • it's about time!
  • A lot of people are on our side now. 
  • James Hill, railroad owner, approves an arbitration for better wages in 1893. 
  • Pullman sleeping car company held a strike in may 1894
  • "These wage cuts aren't fair!"
  • "We will boycott of all trains, including pullman cars!"
  • The General Managers Assembly and federal judges ruled that the ARU's interference with commerce was unlawful.
  • No More!
  • "I just wanted to help the railway system, but in return I get put in jail along with my officers"
  • The ARU officers and Debs were arrested and put into jail, thus bringing an end to their union.
