  • The Persian War was originally started because of the Ionian Revolt led by the Greeks. They saw that the Persians were getting too powerful to they decided to take matters into their own hands and burn down some Persian territory. After that, Persia went out of their way to attack the Greeks. Many battles happened, the biggest were the battle of Marathon, Thermopylae, Salamis (What is pictured), and Platea. The Greeks had such a good army on land with their impenetrable phalanx formation, but the Persians evened it out with there very good navy. In the end, Persia dealt with many defeats and the Greeks eventually won in the Battle of Platea. This was a huge turning point for the Greek because it showed them that if you are being picked on, then stand up for yourself. Even if you don't seem as good as them, odds are, you will win.
  • In the beginning, the Delian League was formed to protect any more harm from the Persians. Overtime, Athens gained more control and started to use the league to their advantage. After seeing this, Sparta gave Athens one last demand. "Free all cities under your control or else face war." Athens refused and that was how the Peloponnesian War began. In the end, Athens locked themselves inside their walls and faced severe problems like a plague, starvation, and overpopulation. They eventually surrendered and that was how Sparta won the war. This changed Greece as after winning the war, the Macedonians started to conquer many small city-states and the future fell apart.
  • We need to call more soldiers!
